Memorial Eucharist for Canon J A Brian Mayne

Canon Brian Mayne died on Wednesday 19 December 2012 after a long battle with cancer.

Born in 1934 he studied history at Queen's University Belfast before training for Ordination in Trinity College Dublin. He served in a number of parishes north and south and was Dean of Waterford from 1980 to 1984 before coming to the Lecale group of parishes.

After retirement from being Rector of the Lecale Group Brian took an active part in worship in St John's. During the parish vacancy from Sept 2011 until May 2012, despite his illness, Brian accepted responsibility for all worship in St John's and the parish was most grateful for all that he did.

His funeral was held in Down Cathedral on Sunday 23 December 2012 conducted by the Bishop of Connor and the address was given by the Bishop of Down & Dromore. The Dean, Revd Brian Cadden, Revd Robert Jones and Bishop Edward Darling also took part in the Service. The service was followed by burial at Saul.

On Saturday 19 January 2013 a Memorial Eucharist was held in St John's Malone in thanksgiving for the life of Brian.

The address was given by the Dean of Belfast, the Very Revd John Mann. Also taking part with the Rector were the Rt Revd Edward Sarling (Celebrant), the Ven Ricky Roundtree (Archdeacon of Glendalough) and the Revd Brian Cadden (Rector of Castlewellan) and Canon Gerald Field (Secretary of the Liturgical Advisory Committee).
