Habitat for Humanity Concert for Cambodia

In November 2013 David McCoy will travel with a group from Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland to Phnom Penh in Cambodia where as part of a group of 500 volunteers they will build 50 houses within one week. To raise funds towards this venture David organised a Concert in St John's on Sunday 1 September. Five young people displayed their extensive musical talent.

The evening commenced with an explanation by David of the work of Habitat for Humanity and of the proposed project. He then introduced each of the young musicians before they performed their solo items. The evening finished  with the artists playing tpgether.

 Violin

Katherine is a member of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain, leader of the Ulster Youth Orchestra and previously led the City of Belfast Youth Orchestra. She is commencing at the Guildhall School of Music in later this month.

  Cornet            

Ryan plays a variety of instruments in various bands and orchestras in school and the wider community. He is a member of 1st Old Boys Silver senior and Youth bands, the Ulster Youth Jazz Orchestra and for the last five years the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain. 

         
  Voice  

Shamariah is a classical soprano. She is about to start a BMus (Hons) degree at King's College London. She has sung with many Methodist College award winning choirs and St Anne's Cathedral choir. She was a finalist in the Catherine Judge Memorial award 2013 and recently won the William Lauder scholarship at the Charles wood Summer School

  Trombone  

Andrew is commencing his second year at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He has played with the London Symphony Orchestra and Britten-Pears Orchestra as part of the Aldeburgh Festival. In March he played in a Masterclass with the principal trombone of the LA Philharmonic. Previously andrew has played with a number of National children and youth orchestras.

 
         
 

Harp 

 

Anna is at Primary School but already enjoys playing the harp and piano and singing. She also enjoys ballet and gymnastics. Watch this space!!
