Annual Service in St Mark's, Newtownards

The CIMS Annual Service was held in St Mark's, Newtownards on Sunday 24 November 2013. The Service was conducted by the Rector, the Revd Chris Matchett. Old and New Testament Lessons were read by Alan Hayward (Chairman, Newtownards Branch) and Arthur Macartney (Hon Lay Sec) and the Prayers were led by Hugh Mitchell (Lay Reader).

During the Service Bishop Alan commissioned the Very Revd Gregory Dunstan as CIMS General Secretary, Arthur Macartney as Hon Lay Secretary and John Wright as Hon Treasurer.

In his address the Very Revd Gregory Dunstan ( CIMS General Secretary and Dean of Armagh) preached on "the Kingship of Christ". He defined earthly Kings as Imperialistic with an Empire and fighting over land. Christ said if he was an earthly King he would be fighting. A thought provoking address.   Click for full address.

After the Service members enjoyed refreshments in the Parish Centre.
