  Habitat 2008

On Saturday 31 May 2008 volunteers from Lisburn Road Methodist and St John's, as in previous years, gave a day of their time to assist Habitat for Humanity in a housing development on the Shankill Road.

With sun-cream, old clothes, building boots and lots of enthusiasm they had set off to build houses or really do whatever was necessary to help in this process.  On arrival they filled in forms and received brief health and safety announcements before being told their tasks for the day – some painted ceilings and walls in almost complete houses whilst others worked on other houses, washed windows or raked out stones.

Although building skills were few and far between, the ‘craic’ as always was good with lots to catch up on from last year. Nevertheless a lot was achieved. It is a really great experience and one to be recommended if you have the opportunity.
